Star Wars: Ahsoka Night Troopers: Are Thrawn’s Soldiers Undead Zombies?

Ahsoka episode 6 finally brought the Star Wars Night Troopers into the mix as a part of Grand Admiral Thrawn’s army. But how are they different from the regular Stormtroopers? Have they been revived as undead zombies? Here’s all you need to know about Thrawn’s soldiers.

What are Night Troopers in Star Wars: Ahsoka?

The Night Troopers are Grand Admiral Thrawn’s Legion of specialized Stormtroopers.

With Thrawn’s arrival, we were introduced to another faction of Stormtroopers on Star Destroyer Chimera, under the command of Captain of the Guard Enoch (played by Wes Chatham). The golden mask of Enoch is inspired by Japanese Samurai armor but, in the Star Wars universe, it is reminiscent of the Nightsisters and the culture of their people.

Even the Night Troopers’ suits have a Japanese Kintsugi aesthetic. “Kintsugi is the art of repairing broken pottery by mending the areas of breakage with hardened lacquer dusted or mixed most commonly with gold.” (via @kenjiAkarii) It could also be a nod to how Kylo Ren fixed his helmet in The Rise of Skywalkers. It may also hint at how the Night Troopers were healed and brought back to life.

Are the Night Troopers alive or undead zombies?

The Night Troopers and Captain Enoch could all be undead zombies, similar to the potentially undead Marrok.

The witches of Dathomir were known for their ability to breathe new life into the injured and even the dead. Inquisitor Marrok’s identity reveal in Ahsoka episode 4 proved that this could be done using magick. So, it’s possible for Captain Enoch and his entire fleet of Night Troopers to be composed of Nightsister magick.

Under their masks, they could all be soldiers raised from the dead by the Nightsisters. This attribute of the army not only makes them expendable, but stronger and more vicious than any regular Stormtrooper army. This way, Thrawn’s fleet becomes a force to reckon with, and his return to the main galaxy with them would raise his threat level tenfold.

More is expected to be revealed about the Night Troopers in Ahsoka episodes 7 and 8.
