Final Fantasy XVI The Rising Tide Release Date Set for Story DLC

The Final Fantasy XVI The Rising Tide release date has been set for the highly anticipated upcoming story DLC for last year’s mainline Final Fantasy title.

The new story DLC is set to be released on Thursday, April 18, 2024 — just under a month from now. In addition to the new story, The Rising Tide will include new battles, sidequests, weapons, and accessories, as well as a new level cap. Additionally, buying The Rising Tide or the game’s Expansion Pass also comes with a reimagined version of Final Fantasy XIV’s Warrior of Light’s weapon — the Curtana — and Orchestrion Rolls of “Torn from the Heavens” and “Through the Maelstrom.”

Set before the ending of the base game, the DLC sees Clive receive an unmarked letter at the hideaway, which contains a request to rescue the Dominant of Leviathan the Lost. This leads Clyde and his allies to the land of Mysidia to “uncover the tragic history of a forgotten people,” according to the press release. You can find more information on the game’s official site.

“For centuries, people have flocked to her Mothercrystals to partake of their blessing — the abundant aether that fuels the magicks they rely upon in their everyday lives,” reads Final Fantasy XVI’s synopsis. “As the aether begins to fade and the lifeless deadlands spread ever further, so too does the struggle for possession of the final flickers of the Mothers’ light grow ever more fierce. Yet amidst the gathering storm, there are those who believe that the legacy of the crystals has shaped mankind’s destiny for long enough.”

Final Fantasy XVI was first released on June 22, 2023 for the PlayStation 5, with a PC release planned for a currently unknown future date. The game was developed by Square Enix, directed by Hiroshi Takai and Kazutoyo Maehiro, and produced by Naoki Yoshida.
