Paranormal Activity Game in the Works at DreadXP

Dread Central’s gaming label DreadXP is working with Paramount Global on a Paranormal Activity game from the creator of the indie horror game hit The Mortuary Assistant.

According to Variety, Brian Clarke (aka Darkstone Digital) is leading the project named Paranormal Activity: Found Footage, having become co-director and creative director at DreadXP last year.

Paranormal Activity Game Looks to Haunt Players

In an official statement, both parties said the game ”will bring the franchise’s groundbreaking found footage style to horror enthusiasts in surprising new ways, immersing them in a story that expands upon the lore and world of the films.”

It’s set to release on multiple platforms (as yet undisclosed) sometime in 2026. It will feature a ”Haunt” system first seen in Clarke’s The Mortuary Assistant, which dynamically alters the types and intensity of scares players will face based on their actions.

You can watch the teaser on Variety’s website.

It’s the second horror IP DreadXP is working on for a game adaptation, after announcing an anthology titled based on the Creepshow television series by Greg Nicotero (The Walking Dead).

Clarke said of the announcement, “The success of the ‘Paranormal Activity’ franchise epitomizes the power and reach of the horror genre. If you thought The Mortuary Assistant was scary, we’re taking what we learned during the development of that title and cranking it up with a more reactive and horrifying haunting system. It’s going to be intense!”

DreadXP has been building up a strong roster of indie horror hits in recent years with the likes of My Friendly Neighborhood, Mirror Forge, the Dread X Collection series, and Clarke’s The Mortuary Assistant, which is heading for a movie adaptation.

The Paranormal Activity series is a highly lucrative horror franchise, and is the most successful found footage series around, having earned more than $800 million at the box office since the first film in 2007. It’s even being turned into a stage play!

In 2017, VRWERX released a Paranormal game titled Paranormal Activity: The Lost Souls, which saw players navigate a haunted house in VR in an original story set in the franchise’s world. It later received an update to become playable outside VR.
