Ghost of Tsushima-Inspired Fan Film Kiru Brings Samurai Swordplay Before Official Movie

Sony is already making an official Ghost of Tsushima feature film, but that doesn’t mean fans can’t make their own smaller ones inspired by the hit open-world game. Actor and director Stephen Ford did just that with his newest short film, Kiru.

Kiru, which translates to “cut,” is not directly related to Ghost of Tsushima since the two seemingly don’t have any characters in common. However, the nine-minute short film takes inspiration from the game that also took heavy inspiration from famous Japanese samurai films. The film is described as “Kurosawa with a mix of John Wick,” and while the former influence is obvious, the second comes from the tale of revenge that is wordlessly told to the viewer.

This project is the result of a Kickstarter that’s aiming to make a few short films based on video game franchises. Helljumpers is the next one in line and is inspired by Halo 3: ODST, which Ford said he hopes to have out in late May. Porter is another short film in the works and will be based on Death Stranding.
