Pinocchio-Inspired Soulslike Lies of P Gets First Gameplay Trailer

Pinocchio-Inspired Soulslike Lies of P Gets Frenetic First Gameplay Trailer

Developer Round8 Studio made a splash in May 2021 with its unexpected reveal of Lies of P, a soulslike RPG inspired by Carlo Collodi’s rendition of Pinocchio. And now the studio has finally released a gameplay trailer of the title, showing that it truly does play like a Bloodborne-esque game.

The trailer shows a whole host of melee combat, which sees the protagonist slashing and parrying his way around the Gothic landscape. It’s seemingly got a faster pace than Dark Souls, putting it more in the realm of Bloodborne, Sekiro, or Nioh in terms of speed. And like Sekiro, Lies of P has a protagonist with a mechanical that offers more possibilities during gameplay. The trailer showed this off when P used his arm as a grappling hook to snatch an enemy from a nearby rooftop.

It will have character progression and weapon crafting, which make sense for an action RPG like this, but it also earns its RPG label by focusing on its narrative, too. The game takes place in the broken city of Krat where P and Mr. Geppetto have to get to the bottom of what’s going on and fix it. Geppetto, while not in this trailer, was presumably the figure in the game’s reveal trailer. The title itself also comes from its lying mechanic that will lead to “profound narrative choices.” Players will be able to lie to other characters and become “more human,” which will bring forth certain advantages and disadvantages.

While Round8 did say it was coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC and will be using Unreal Engine 4, the developer is still keeping the game under wraps as it hasn’t shared much about its release date. However, there will be more Lies of P details at G-STAR, which will take place in South Korea from November 17 to November 21. More character reveals and gameplay details will come in “the coming months.”
