Remedy Has ‘No Plans’ for Alan Wake’s American Nightmare Remastered

Alan Wake Remastered recently came out, bringing a 2010 game into the modern era. However, it appears as though Remedy Entertainment is not going to also release Alan Wake’s American Nightmare Remastered anytime soon, if at all, as the team said it has “no plans” for such a title.

Communications Director Thomas Puha spoke about this in an interview with VideoGamesChronicle. When prompted if American Nightmare would get a similar update for modern hardware, Puha shot down the idea.

“There’s no plans currently,” he said. “For this remaster it was really ‘okay, it’s the original game and the two DLC story episodes’ and that just makes for a sensible Alan Wake experience and package, and that’s how we approached it. So no, no plans for American Nightmare at all.”

Alan Wake’s American Nightmare isn’t always remembered within the context of the series, but it was an shorter, expandalone game that released around two years after the first title. It not only added some arcadey combat-focused modes, but also continued the story of the franchise, putting Alan Wake in a time loop (which has become a trend as of late) while he went against his nemesis, Mr. Scratch.

American Nightmare wasn’t received as well as the base game as it scored a full 10 points lower on Metacritic; a 73 compared to an 83. The studio seems like it is gearing up for Alan Wake 2 so it is peculiar that it is leaving this title on PC and Xbox 360, given how it is relatively important to the series’ narrative. Puha also said there were no plans “currently” and then no plans “at all” so there still could be a chance that Alan Wake’s American Nightmare Remastered eventually sees the light of day, but, if it does ever get remastered, it sounds like that will be quite some time away.
