Spider-Man 2 Game Will Be a ‘Little Darker,’ According To Marvel

Insomniac Games’ Spider-Man 2 isn’t slated to come out on PlayStation 5 until 2023 and the developer hasn’t revealed much about the title. However, Marvel has given some slight teases about what’s in store for the sequel, saying it will be darker than the other two Insomniac-developed Spider-Man games.

Vice President of Marvel Games Bill Rosemann recently spoke about the game on the September 17 episode of the This Week In Marvel podcast, as stated by Eurogamer. At about 11 minutes into the podcast, Rosemann compared the games to Star Wars and that Spider-Man 2 was like Empire Strikes Back.

“If the first Spider-Man game was Star Wars, Spider-Man 2 is kind of our Empire,” he said. “It gets a little darker.”

The game’s debut trailer showed Venom, which backs up this statement. The symbiote is known to play a darker role and sometimes dance in the middle of New York City.

Rosemann also said that this game will have some new and old threads. The new threads are literal in that Insomniac has updated Miles’ and Peter’s suit just a little — Peter’s has a deeper red and Miles’s now has stripe down his arm — without “[throwing] the baby out with the bathwater.” The old threads are related to the story as the game will continue beats from those prior two games and will be the “next big chapter.”

He did not spill much about the Wolverine game that Insomniac Games is also making, but did speak briefly about the Easter eggs scattered around the trailer, some of which are said to point to a ’70s setting and Hulk. He said his favorites were the cash register (which is what supposedly points to the time period) and the bar when Wolverine pops out his claws, which looks a lot like an eyepatch (which Wolverine has worn in the past for his alternate identity, Patch). He also said Marvel Games was waiting for the right partner to make a Wolverine game as he is such a beloved character (that already has a well-respescted game).
