Final Fantasy XIV Online Goes Live on PlayStation 5

Square Enix has confirmed that the long-awaited Patch 5.55 for Final Fantasy XIV Online has gone live as of today.

The release of the patch heralds the dawn of a new era for the game, by enabling PlayStation 5 support for the very first time. The newly-minted Final Fantasy XIV PS5 version boasts framerate improvements, faster load times, 4K support, new trophies, 3D audio support, and DualSense haptic feedback.

Patch 5.55 also marks the endpoint of the Shadowbringers expansion, adding additional content to the main game, as well as the YoRHa: Dark Apocalypse and Save the Queen questlines. The patch helps to set the stage for the upcoming fifth expansion – Endwalker – which is set to close out the Hydaelyn and Zodiark stories when it releases on November 23.

The Final Fantasy XIV Online Complete Edition, Starter Edition, and Shadowbringers expansion pack are all available on the PlayStation Store. Users who already own the PlayStation 4 version can upgrade to the Final Fantasy XIV PS5 version free of charge, while new players can give the game a spin via a free trial version that has also been made available.
