Bad Santa & Secret Window Rule the Charts

Buena Vista Home Entertainment’s R-rated Bad Santa and its unrated version topped the charts last week. Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment’s Johnny Depp thriller Secret Window topped the comedy, though, on Video Store magazine’s list of top rental titles for the week ending June 27.

The unrated Badder Santa handily beat out the theatrically released version. The uncut version of the film had weekly rental revenue of $11.9 million. Its R-rated version scored $2.1 million.

“Secret Window racked up $15.5 million in its first week in release, representing about a third of the film’s boxoffice take.

Nielsen VideoScan’s First Alert DVD sales chart showed a strong debut out of the gate for Badder Santa. The disc sold more than 436,000 units, with its R-rated version adding another 22,000 units to its overall sales. Secret Window was a distant but respectable second, with more than 277,000 units in sales.
