Youku recently released the official trailer for the upcoming historical C-drama Celebrated Cases of Judge Dee. Featuring Yiwei Zhou as Di Renjie, the trailer raises anticipation among fans who look forward to this adaptation of the series.

With a mix of history, mystery, and fantasy, Celebrated Cases of Judge Dee is an adaptation of Robert van Gulik’s detective fiction series of the same title. The author took his inspiration from an 18th-century Chinese novel that an anonymous writer wrote. Robert van Gulik first translated the original novel, after which he started writing his own stories on Judge Dee.

The backdrop of the original novel sees the glorious Tang dynasty of China, even though it features elements from later dynasties. The story follows Di Renjie, a young and intelligent country magistrate who attempts to solve crimes. He holds a powerful position since he is also the prosecutor, the judge, and the jury.

The released trailer of the drama begins on a suspenseful note. There are scenes from the battleground and a war-torn kingdom. There are mysterious murders taking place within the palace, which seem to be linked to a masked intruder. Amidst this, Yiwei Zhou’s character, Di Renjie, is given the responsibility to get to the bottom of this.
