Netflix has released the opening sequence for their newest original anime series titled Trese, centered around a monster-hunting Filipina named Alexandra Trese, voiced by Shay Mitchell and Liza Soberano. The video, which you can check out below, begins in Manila, Philippines, with an LRT train abruptly stopping in the middle of a railway bridge. To its passengers, this is just a normal occurrence. Unbeknownst to them, vampiric creatures called the Aswangs are waiting to attack them. The supernatural anime debuts today, with all six episodes now available for streaming.
Based on Budjette Tan and KaJO Baldismo’s Philippine graphic novel, Trese is set in Manila where the mythical creatures of Philippine folklore including the Aswangs, Kapre, White Lady, Tikbalang, and more live in hiding amongst humans, Alexandra Trese finds herself going head to head with a criminal underworld comprised of malevolent supernatural beings.
The series is being led by Filipino-Canadian actress Shay Mitchell (Pretty Little Liars) as Alexandra Trese, with Liza Soberano voicing the character in the Filipino version. Its English voice cast is comprised of some actors of Filipino descent including Manny Jacinto, Nicole Scherzinger, Lou Diamond Phillips, Darren Criss, Griffin Puatu, Jon Jon Briones, Matt Yang King, and Eric Bauza, along with American actors Carlos Alazraqui and Steve Blum.
Trese is executive produced by Jay Oliva (The Legend of Korra), with Shanty Harmayn and Tanya Yuson of BASE Entertainment sets as producers.
