Now that Kikoru knows Kafka’s secret and the series has revealed an intelligent Kaiju disguising himself as a clean-up crew member, Kaiju No. 8 episode 5 will mark the beginning of the newly formed Defense Force. Kaiju No. 8 episode 4 recap: Kafka transforms into Kaiju in front of Kikoru

Kaiju No. 8 episode 4, “Fortitude 9.8,” begins where the previous episode left off. As such, Kafka refuses to give up and stands up on his broken leg. Moreover, much to Hoshino’s amusement, Ichikawa carries Kafka on his shoulders while Kafka commands him to follow Kikoru.

Meanwhile, Kikoru single-handedly kills most of the Yoju in the area. Besides, she kills the last Honju, marking the end of the exam. However, unexpectedly, a humanoid Kaiju appears out of the blue, shooting Kikoru Shinomiya in the heart. The Kaiju then revives all the defeated monsters, making them stronger than before.

Kikoru does not give up and prepares to strike back, but to no avail. The humanoid Kaiju speaks to Kikoru and attacks her multiple times, almost knocking her unconscious. Soon, a flashback explains how a young Kikoru depended on her father’s validation, which explains her current resolve for perfection.

Thankfully, Kafka arrives at the spot before the Honju hurts Kikoru any further. The situation calls for Kafka’s transformation into his Kaiju form, following which he defeats the Honju. Later, he begs Kikoru not to reveal his secret to anyone, which she obliges when Hoshino inquires about it later.
