Megumin returns home from school and sees that her sister has caught a black cat-like creature. She takes it from her and brings it to school the next day. Her classmates ask about the pet, and Megumin tells them she’s her familiar. Megumin tries to plead with the teacher for her to keep the familiar and he eventually agrees. Their teacher informs the class that they will undergo the Crimson Demon augmentation surge, which will raise their levels quicker.
While the students are defeating some creatures in the forest, a gargoyle attacks them. Bukkorori, a stalker of the village’s beauty, saves them. However, the students leave him trapped in a pit after hearing him obsess over her. The students then witness the village being attacked by gargoyles. The adults defeat the gargoyles, but Megumin isn’t interested in their spells. However, the adults also end up destroying the village, and they rebuild it overnight.
