The Details:

The following is the official description of the film:

“The good… the bad… the Twitchy. The sequel finds our heroine, Red (Hayden Panettiere), training with a mysterious covert group called the Sisters of the Hood. But Red is forced to cut her training short when she gets an urgent call from Nick Flippers (David Ogden Stiers), the head of the super secret Happily Ever After Agency, aka HEA. A wicked witch (Joan Cusack) has abducted two innocent children, Hansel (Bill Hader) and Gretel (Amy Poehler), and Nicky needs the whole Hoodwinked gang – Red, Granny (Glenn Close), the ever-clueless Wolf (Patrick Warburton) and his over-caffeinated little partner, Twitchy (Cory Edwards) – for the search and rescue mission.”

“Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil” is rated PG for some mild rude humor, language and action.

Mini-Review:

“Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil” is a lot like its predecessor, both in good ways a bad ways. It still has the B-Grade animation like before. But while the previous one excelled beyond the animation with a great script, this one doesn’t have that same advantage. Yeah, it’s fun and there are some good jokes, but it doesn’t pack the same punch as the first one. This sequel also features the same fairytale setting, but it starts to feel a bit like a “Shrek” sequel. The first one got away from that similarity by integrating it with a mystery and a crime drama. This sequel follows a more linear story as Red and the gang again try to rescue Granny. They try to expand on the world with the introduction of the Beanstalk Giant, Hansel and Gretel, and Miss Muffet’s spider, but they lack the impact of the characters from the first film.

Most of the cast from the first film returns (with the notable exception of Anne Hathaway) and they continue to do a great job. Most notable are Patrick Warburton as The Big Bad Wolf and Cory Edwards as Twitchy. But some of the new cast is fun, too. This round we have Bill Hader as Hansel and Amy Poehler as Gretel. Also memorable are Cheech Marin as Mad Hog, Tommy Chong as Stone, and Brad Garrett as The Giant.

Overall “Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil” is entertaining, but the first film remains the better of the two. But kids will enjoy it, so if you have to entertain some then this will fit the bill.

The Blu-ray doesn’t have a whole lot of bonus features. There are three music videos, some production artwork, and storyboard sequences. But the highlight are videos of the cast at their recording sessions. You see Hayden Panettiere, Heidi Klum, and others recording their dialogue. They obviously have a lot of fun doing it and it’s particularly fun seeing Klum improvise some of her dialogue.
