James Remar and More in Boarding School Horror, February

What was the last great boarding school horror film? While not great, I’d count Lucky McKee’s The Woods as certianly overlooked. And while more dramatic, Antonio Campos’ Afterschool is an anxious, upsetting affair. It’s entirely too bad Mary Harron’s The Moth Diaries was a disappointment. Boarding School Horror feels like a beloved (likely thanks to Suspiria), if underutilized subgenre, one director Oz Perkins will be making his feature debut in with February, starring Emma Roberts, Kiernan Shipka (Mad Men) and now James Remar.

In February, “beautiful and haunted Joan (Roberts) makes a bloody and determined pilgrimage across a frozen landscape toward a prestigious all girls prep school where Rose and Kat find themselves stranded after their parents mysteriously fail to retrieve them for winter break. As Joan gets closer, terrifying visions begin plaguing Kat while Rose watches in horror as she becomes possessed by an unseen evil force.”

Dexter’s Remar will appear in the film alongside Lauren Holly and Lucy Boynton. February is now filming in Ottawa. Director Perkins is actually the son of Psycho star Anthony Perkins, and appeared as a young Norman Bates in Pyscho II.
