The Opening of the Bloody Valentine Sequel You Might Not See

Director Lussier gives us a tease

Warning: Naturally, if you haven’t seen the 2009 Bloody Valentine and don’t want to have anything spoiled, turn away.

When My Bloody Valentine opened in 2009, sequel talks immediately began. Director Patrick Lussier and writer Todd Farmer cracked a story, but Lionsgate simply wasn’t interested in doing a follow-up, despite the film’s $21 million opening weekend gross.

Out promoting the release of their latest collaboration, Drive Angry, Lussier and Farmer felt now was as good a time as any to discuss the sequel fans of the first film will probably not see. And, thankfully, they felt comfortable filling Shock in on what they had planned. But they just wanted to offer a few details. They admit that some of the script ideas might transfer into other upcoming projects, however, the opening sequence was suitable to talk about.

“It was going to start the moment the first film ended,” Lussier tells Shock. “We were going to wheel into the hospital with Axel [Kerr Smith] and his wife [Sarah, Jaime King] was there. He goes into surgery. She goes to make a phone call in one of the waiting rooms to check in on her son. She gets to the phone and she sees these muddy footprints and looks around the corner to the bathroom and there’s Tom [Jensen Ackles] trying to sew himself up. The massacre you didn’t see at the beginning of our Bloody Valentine perhaps you see in the beginning of the sequel.”

The word “massacre” was the operative word for the sequel, Lussier laughs. “There were several planned for the movie. My Bloody Valentine 2 would have been a massacre!”
