Noomi Rapace Wins Sherlock Holmes 2 Lead

Swedish actress Noomi Rapace has been chosen to play the female lead in Sherlock Holmes 2, reports Heat Vision.

Best known for her role as Lisbeth Salander in the Swedish Millennium Trilogy (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets’ Nest), Rapace will make her English language debut with the Holmes sequel.

Though her role is unspecified, Heat Vision suggests that it may be the part of a French Gypsy, a role that doesn’t have any immediate parallel in iconic Arthur Conan Doyle characters.

The article also makes note that (as heavily suggested by the ending of the original) Professor Moriarty will appear onscreen and that Holmes’ older brother, Mycroft, will be making an appearance. Though it is an unlikely source for direct adaptation (as it would effectively end the franchise), Doyle’s “The Final Problem” is the only original Holmes novel that includes both characters.
