Zack Snyder Teases Doomsday Mythology to be Explored in Justice League

Zack Snyder talks Doomsday in Batman v Superman and the future

It surprised many fans when the latest trailer for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice debuted and revealed that the super villain Doomsday would be making an appearance. Many were surprised that this reveal would be shown in the trailers too instead of a preserved secret for the theater experience, but director Zack Snyder stands behind his decision to reveal the muscled-out monster

“We had a long conversation about just taking ownership of that, of giving it to the audience in a controlled way that I felt was consistent with the escalation of the campaign,” Snyder tells The Daily Beast“To us it really made sense to give [Doomsday] to the audience now. I really wanted to make the audience a promise that… though I’m super excited and happy and fulfilled by the conflict of Batman and Superman, there’s also a bigger world to start to think about.”

The outlet went on to ask Snyder about comments he made last week wherein he teased a “bigger enemy to fight” in Justice League. Snyder wouldn’t divulge which character he was referring to, be it Darkseid, Brainiac, or another, but went on to say:

“Well, you have Doomsday, right? He doesn’t just crawl out of the ground. He has his own mythology, right? So that has to be explored…”

Feel free to speculate on Snyder’s quote in the comments below!

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is set to debut in theaters on March 25 with Justice League: Part One slotted for November 17, 2017. The DCEU team up will begin production in London this spring. Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck will star in both films as both Superman and Batman, respectively, and they will be joined by Gal Gadot as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, and Ray Fisher as Cyborg.
