Watch: ‘Pawn Sacrifice’ Trailer Starring Tobey Maguire as Bobby Fischer

Pawn Sacrifice will be hitting theaters on Sep. 18, a year and eleven days after I reviewed it at last year’s Toronto Film Festival. The film, starring Tobey Maguire is chess prodigy Bobby Fischer is, as I said in my review, “a good movie, though nothing altogether ground-breaking or entirely revealing.” It hits the standard beats and will be a satisfying watch for most, though just don’t go in expecting much.

Edward Zwick directs and Liev Schreiber, Sophie Nélisse, Peter Sarsgaard, Lily Rabe, Robin Weigert, Michael Stuhlbarg and Seamus Davey-Fitzpatrick co-star. Check out the trailer below.

In a gripping true story set during the height of the Cold War, American chess prodigy Bobby Fischer (Tobey Maguire) finds himself caught between two superpowers when he challenges the Soviet Empire. Also starring Liev Schreiber and Peter Sarsgaard, Pawn Sacrifice chronicles Fischer’s terrifying struggles with genius and madness, and the rise and fall of a kid from Brooklyn who captured the imagination of the world.
