E.L. James’ Husband, Niall Leonard, Writing ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ Sequel

I have to admit, I never saw this coming, but with the mass exodus from the Fifty Shades of Grey franchise following the release of the first film — both screenwriter Kelly Marcel and director Sam Taylor-Johnson are not returning — word was author E.L. James wanted to write the screenplay for the film’s sequel, Fifty Shades Darker. Well, it turns out that ain’t happening, but in James’ case it seems they may have got the next best thing, her husband, Niall Leonard.

THR has the news and come to learn Leonard has written for several TV shows since the mid-’90s, though, admittedly none I’d ever heard of. The film’ producer, Michael De Luca, however seems on the Leonard train saying, “Niall is an outstanding writer in his own right, with multiple established credits, and we are lucky to have him join Team Fifty.”

I don’t know, in the last ten years he’s written for shows such as “Wire in the Blood”, “Wild at Heart” and “Air Force One is Down”. Now I’ve never heard of any of those, but they have all had multiple seasons so maybe I’m missing out on something.

As of now it’s assumed Fifty Shades Darker will hit theaters in 2017 with Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan returning as Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey respectively in a story that will go a little something like this…
