Watch: Ian McKellen Talks to a Kid in New Clip from ‘Mr. Holmes’

Are we done with Sherlock Holmes? Between the Guy Ritchie film series, the BBC series starring everyone’s favorite actor Benedict Cumberbatch, and the CBS series “Elementary“, we have had an onslaught of Sherlock for years now, not even counting all the ripoffs and whatnot. So, of course, we need another one.

Thankfully, Bill Condon‘s take on the world’s most famous detective in Mr. Holmes is a very different one. Putting him very much past his prime, this could create some very interesting character drama, not to mention the benefit of Ian McKellen playing him, an actor with the ability to make anything utterly compelling. Just for McKellen alone, I am interested.

The film will be premiering at the Berlin International Film Festival. Hopefully word coming out of the festival is positive as Roadside is planning on bringing it to theaters later this year.

All that said, the first clip has been made available for you all to watch, which you can do so below. What do you think? Are you Sherlock Holmes-ed out? Can you not get enough? Is McKellen enough?

It is 1947, and the long-retired Sherlock Holmes, now 93, lives in a remote Sussex farmhouse with his housekeeper and her young son. He tends to his bees, writes in his journal, and grapples with the diminishing powers of his mind. But in the twilight of his life, as people continue to look to him for answers, Holmes revisits a case that may provide him with answers of his own to questions he didn’t even know he was asking-about life, about love, and about the limits of the mind’s ability to know.
