Extended First Look at ‘Les Miserables’

Universal recently shifted their release plans for their upcoming musical Les Miserables from a face-off against The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey to a face-off against Django Unchained on Christmas Day in what appears to be a very smart move and with the date in hand they are now continuing their marketing efforts today with an extended first look at the film in the following 4:37 minute video.

Directed by Tom Hooper (The King’s Speech), the adaptation of Victor Hugo’s classic is set against the backdrop of 19th-century France and tells the story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption–a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. Hugh Jackman plays ex-prisoner Jean Valjean, hunted for decades by the ruthless policeman Javert (Russell Crowe) after he breaks parole. When Valjean agrees to care for factory worker Fantine’s (Anne Hathaway) young daughter, Cosette, their lives change forever.

The rest of the cast includes Amanda Seyfried, Eddie Redmayne, Aaron Tveit, Samantha Barks, Helena Bonham Carter and Sacha Baron Cohen and the film will include recognizable songs including “I Dreamed a Dream,” “Bring Him Home,” “One Day More” and “On My Own” as well as an all new song titled “Suddenly” written by Claude-Michel Schonberg and Alain Boublil and performed by Jackman.
