‘The Hangover’ Hangs On at the Box-Office Over ‘Up’

Variety was the first to report the shift at the top of the overall weekend box-office, but their report didn’t include conclusive numbers, which have since arrived bringing word the new Warner Bros. comedy The Hangover was able to narrowly hold on to its Friday box-office lead and take the #1 slot over Pixar’s Up.

Of course this doesn’t mean a whole lot outside of bragging rights, but since weekend box-office reports have become a larger part of the RopeofSilicon weekend news cycle I felt it was important to keep things accurate.

Up‘s weekend receipts only dropped $.1 million after receipts were calculated brining its total down to $44.1 million, but it was The Hangover that exceded estimates by $1.7 million giving it a three-day total of $44.9 million and the box-office crown.

Things didn’t get any better for Universal, though, as Land of the Lost dropped another $.7 million down to $18.8 million for the weekend ending in third.

Final top ten numbers for the weekend can be found right here. Laremy will be here Thursday with updated weekend projections, hope to see you join in the conversation.

Oh, and regular box-office commenter Chuck Bartowski wanted a nod for his weekend predictions so I will give him one here… Good on yah, see you next week!
