Variety reports Star Trek earned an estimated $7 million following Thursday night screenings of the sci-fi reboot, and all eyes now turn to Friday numbers.
Looking over at Steve Mason’s thoughts he believes if the film can manage $22 million today it should end up around $70 million for the weekend, but should it muster $25 million we may be looking at something in the $80 million range.
Star Trek is opening on 3,800 screens, including IMAX, and currently holds a 96% rating at Rotten Tomatoes. No matter what this weekend’s numbers end up being I expect this one to do well for a while thanks to strong word-of-mouth.
