CASTING NEWS: February 20, 2007

The day after President’s Day looks like it is going to be slow rolling as well, but don’t worry, the Oscars are just around the corner. However, there were a few casting tidbits to mention, here you go:

Steve Zahn has been cast opposite Amy Adams, Alan Arkin, Emily Blunt, Clifton Collins, Jr., Eric Christian Olsen and Kevin Chapman in Christine Jeffs’ dark comedy Sunshine Cleaning, a film in which Zahn plays Mac, a married police officer having an affair with Rose Lorkowski (Adams), the co-owner of a firm that cleans up messy crime scenes. Arkin and Blunt play Rose’s relatives and partners in the family business. Filming began last Friday in New Mexico. [The Hollywood Reporter]

Who is Andrew Garfield? Who the hell knows, but he is set to star in Robert Redford’s Lions for Lambs alongside the likes of Redford, Tom Cruise, and Meryl Streep. The pic was written by Matthew Michael Carnahan, the story features three interconnected plotlines: a congressman who interacts with a journalist; an idealistic professor who attempts to inspire a privileged student in his class; and a pair of American soldiers wounded in enemy territory in Afghanistan, one of whom is the professor’s former student. You will first see Garfield in The Other Bolyen Girl which stars Scarlett Johansson and Natalie Portman for Columbia Pictures. [The Hollywood Reporter]

Tony Kaye is reportedly set to replace Samuel Bayer as director on the Sam Jackson and Bruce Willis starrer Black Water Transit with filming set to begin in April in New Orleans. The film follows the divergent agendas of criminals, cops and lawyers as they collide over a shipment of illegal firearms and a double homicide. Willis plays Earl Pike, a criminal who tries to get his family’s illegal gun collection to a safe haven. [Production Weekly]

Michael Keaton is also set to take the director’s chair in what would be his helming debut with The Merry Gentleman, an indie drama that will star Keaton and newcomer Keith Kupferer. Filming in Chicago is scheduled to start March 6th wrapping mid April. [Production Weekly]
