Box Office Oracle: Dec. 23 – Dec. 25

This is the wackiest of all Oracle weekends. No less than eight films open or open wider this weekend including three on Christmas day. Thankfully Kong is the clear king so the #1 movie streak will remain intact. As for the rest of the top ten it’s anybody’s guess. Mine especially.

1. King Kong 31.5m

The only way I get bamboozled is if the running time scares away the people. My thought is that most people will need a long break from presents and family so I’m sticking with the double K.

2. The Chronicles of Narnia; The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe 24.7m

Right after the kid cries about not getting an X-Box 360 he’ll get whisked away to this bad boy. That’ll teach him to cry.

3. Cheaper by the Dozen 2 22.9m

The plot of this looks flat out hilarious. Steve Martin, we owe you one.

4. Fun with Dick and Jane 20.5m

I’ve got to figure Jim Carrey still has a few fans out there.

5. The Family Stone 10.4m

A heartwarming tale about wife swapping.

6. Rumor Has It 6.8m

A heartwarming tale about sleeping with the dude who slept with your mom and grandma.

7. Memoirs of a Geisha 5.3m

A heartwarming tale about sleeping with paying customers. Who knew Christmas movies would be so racy?

8. The Ringer 5.1m

I still can’t figure out how this was made in conjunction with the Special Olympics. Something reeks of pay-offs here.

9. Wolf Creek 4.7m

Christmas and being terrified go together like frogs and cows.

10. Munich 3.2m

A heartwarming tale about a contract killer. Is this the tenth movie? Crap, I didn’t even get to use my Brokeback Mountain heartwarming tale line. Oh well, next year.
