A Detailed Look at the Cast of Fifty Shades of Grey The Movie

As we count down the days to the release of Fifty Shades of Grey – appearing in theaters on Valentine’s Day, appropriately – we will explore various facets of the soon-to-be-released film. The film has had many rumors regarding the cast, but now that the film is in post-production the cast is solidified. To quench your thirst, we offer an in depth look into the stars of this soon-to-be megahit.

Jamie Dornan (Christian Grey)

Thirty-two year old Jamie Dornan may have been born in Northern Ireland but he is certainly making a splash in his acting career. Prior to his casting in Fifty Shades of Grey, you may have seen him in Marie Antoinette alongside Kirsten Dunst or the first season of the television series, “Once Upon A Time.” Dornan also actively models, appearing in sultry ads for Calvin Klein and Dior. For the droves of women who will be beating down his door after the release of Fifty Shades, I’m sorry to announce that Dornan is married to Amelia Warner and they have a young daughter. At least he can still visit you in your dreams.

Dakota Johnson (Anastasia Steele)

Dakota Johnson is the actress and model daughter of 80s-era actors Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith. It should come as no surprise though, that Johnson has made her mom promise not to see the film. Now 25 years old, the actress made her first appearance alongside her mother and half-sister, Stella Banderas, in Crazy in Alabama, appearing as Griffith’s daughter. Since then, Johnson has been busy with appearances in The Social Network, Beastly, 21 Jump Street, Need for Speed, and television series “Ben and Kate,” to name a few. Johnson was the first cast member to be solidified and the book’s author, E L James, says, “she’s an old soul, but she’s so sweet and she has a wicked sense of humor.”

Eloise Mumford (Kate Kavanagh)

Eloise Mumford plays Kate Kavanagh, Anastasia’s best friend and roommate who inadvertently causes Anastasia and Christian to meet in the first place. The 28-year-old actress attended acting school in New York City. Mumford has been acting since 2008 with her first appearance on the television series “Crash,” but Fifty Shades will be her first major role. Like Dakota Johnson, Mumford also has ties to Jessie Eisenberg, having performed with him in a short film called “Some Boys Don’t Leave.”

Rita Ora (Mia Grey)

Rita Ora is more known for her vocal career, particularly in the United Kingdom (where she is originally from) but she is gaining popularity within the United States after her collaboration with Iggy Azelea. However, Ora has had small acting rolls since 2004. Ora’s character in Fifty Shades is Grey’s younger adoptive sister.

Max Martini (Jason Taylor)

Max Martini will appear in Fifty Shades as James Taylor, Grey’s bodyguard and right-hand man. He’s been acting longer than some of Fifty Shade’s fans have been alive, appearing since 1981 in various television shows as well as Saving Private Ryan, Contact, and Pacific Rim.

Luke Grimes (Elliot Grey)

Luke Grimes will portray Elliot, Grey’s adoptive older brother and the love interest of Kate Kavanagh. The 30-year-old actor hails from Dayton, Ohio and his most recognizable roles have been in Taken 2 and the television series “True Blood.”

Victor Rasuk (José Rodriguez)

Victor Rasuk is a born and raised New Yorker whose notable appearances include Godzilla, Lords of Dogtown and various television appearances. Rasuk will appear in Fifty Shades as José, a photographer and close friend to Anastasia.

Callum Keith Rennie (Ray Steele)

Callum Keith Rennie has been acting since 1993 with notable appearances in Memento, The Butterfly Effect, eXistenZ, and various television shows including “Californication” and “24.” The 54-year-old actor will portray Anastasia’s father.

Jennifer Ehle (Carla May Wilks)

Jennifer Ehle will appear in Fifty Shades as Anastasia’s mother, but her acting career is nothing short of impressive with roles in Zero Dark Thirty, The King’s Speech, and The Ides of March, to name a few. The actress has also appeared on Broadway, winning the 2000 Tony Award for Best Actress for her performance in “The Real Thing.”

Marcia Gay Harden (Dr. Grace Trevelyan-Grey)

Marcia Gay Harden will play the role of Christian’s adoptive mother but is also known for her performances in Into the Wild, Flubber, Mystic River, The Mist, and various television appearances. She started her acting career in 1979 but found her place in film in the 90s.

Andrew Airlie (Carrick Grey)

Scotland born, Andrew Airlie, had a late start in acting but has appeared in 125 different roles, including those in 50/50, Fantastic Four, and Apollo 18. He’s also appeared on “The X-Files,” “Stargate SG-1,” and “Smallville,” three of the longest-running science fiction television series in North America.
