Marvel Confirms Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange!

In the latest Marvel movie news, Marvel Studios has just officially announced that, as has been long suspected, Benedict Cumberbatch will headline director Scott Derickson’s Marvel Studios Phase Three film, Doctor Strange!

Scheduled to hit theaters November 4, 2016, Doctor Strange is scripted by Jon Spaihts and is said to follow the story of neurosurgeon Dr. Stephen Strange who, after a horrific car accident, discovers the hidden world of magic and alternate dimensions.

“Stephen Strange’s story requires an actor capable of great depth and sincerity,” says Producer Kevin Feige. “In 2016, Benedict will show audiences what makes Doctor Strange such a unique and compelling character.”

Cumberbatch, who is in theaters now in the Alan Turing biopic The Imitation Game, is likely best known as the star of the BBC’s contemporary Sir Arthur Conan Doyle adaptation, “Sherlock.” He stars on the show (which is soon to begin production on its fourth season) opposite Martin Freeman, with whom he also stars in this month’s The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies.

Cumberbatch can also be seen coming up in director Scott Cooper’s Whitey Bulger biopic Black Mass. There, he stars opposite Johnny Depp and Joel Edgerton.
