As Ransom Canyon prepares for its Season 2, Eoin Macken’s Davis, who spent Season 1 positioning himself against Staten, is no longer a series regular. Now, Josh Duhamel, who plays the latter, has shared his feelings about the former’s leaving and how it could shape the arc.

Staten Kirkland is not mourning the loss of his former ally. In fact, the rancher sees Davis Collins’ leaving as a long-overdue clearing of the deck. “I think he’s happy to see him go, to be honest,” Josh Duhamel told ScreenRant.
“I think that it was that he didn’t trust him. It was one of those things where he thought that he had sort of an alliance with him after years of sort of being on the opposite side of the fence. I don’t think Staten’s missing him in any kind of way.”
For Duhamel, the leaving of Davis does more than end a rivalry as it unlocks something Staten has long suppressed for Ransom Canyon Season 2. “And if anything, I think it cleared the canvas for him to finally properly go after Quinn and pursue the relationship that he’s always wanted.”
This reframing of Staten’s priorities is a tonal shift for the Netflix drama. Without Davis scheming in the background, the path is open for something the widowed rancher has denied himself for years. Duhamel acknowledged the ranch remains central to Staten’s identity but made clear that his motivations have evolved.
“Yeah. Yeah. I think that it’s all together,” he said when asked whether Quinn now ranks above protecting the Double K. “After he lost his wife and his son, you build these things for your family. You build them to pass on.”
The actor continued, “There’s a purpose behind it all. And when they were gone, he didn’t have a lot of purpose stuff. He just had this big ranch he had to take care of. It’s the only thing he’s ever known, but he has nobody to really share it with anymore.”
Based on Jodi Thomas’ bestselling novels, Ransom Canyon will return for its Season 2 on July 23.
