Tiffany Haddish Makes a Huge Dramatic Shift in Tense The Girl in the River Trailer

The Girl in the River movie trailer is here, and it shows Tiffany Haddish in a surprising role. The crime thriller is helmed by Brando Benetton and also features Maggie Grace and Devon Sawa, among others.

The official synopsis for The Girl in the River reads, “A seasoned criminologist and a forensic psychologist are drawn to a remote town to investigate a child’s murder and her twin’s disappearance, only for the case to spiral into obsession as they race against time to catch a killer before it’s too late.”

What do we see in the trailer for The Girl in the River with Tiffany Haddish?

The Girl in the River trailer shows Tiffany Haddish playing Erica Graysmith, a Police Captain whose team includes veteran criminologist Alan Kramer, played by Sawa. He is forced to work alongside an inexperienced profiler, Amelia Pembrock, played by Grace, on a case involving a child’s murder and her twin’s disappearance.

However, the story spirals deep into a mystery where Pembrock and Kramer have to race against time to catch the real killer. Toward the end of the intense trailer, Tiffany Haddish’s character says, “You’re not ready to confront what real evil looks like.”

Seeing Haddish in the role of a police captain will be intriguing because she has mostly been associated with comedy films such as Girls Trip and Night School. However, she has begun transitioning into more dramatic roles with performances in films such as The Card Counter.

Haddish is also known for her roles in Bad Boys: Ride or Die, Haunted Mansion, and The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent.

The Girl in the River has Joe Lemmon and Andrew Stevens as the producers. Executive producers include Hicham Benkirane, Alan B. Bursteen, Dawn Bursteen, Rick Moore, Alessandro Penazzi, Jeff Roschman, and Sam Stevens.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Girl in the River was recently acquired by Samuel Goldwyn Films and will be released in theaters and on digital platforms on September 4, 2026.
