The Backrooms movie will soon be released in 4K UHD and Blu-Ray. Although there is no official release date, pre-bookings are available on the official A24 site. Moreover, the release will come with nearly three hours of never-before-seen footage.
What is the update on Backrooms’ 4K UHD and Blu-ray release?
A24’s shop has put the Backrooms’ 4K Ultra HD and Special Blu-ray editions up for preorder, with shipments expected in late August. The release is available in either a standard HD Blu-ray for $30 or a 4K UHD edition for $35.
These special editions come with bonus features, including 16 minutes of bonus footage of “Everything Must Go” and a 26-minute featurette on “Building the Backrooms”. It also includes VFX & Scene Breakdown, a prop walkthrough with director Kane Parsons, and two VFX breakdowns with optional commentary.
The edition will also feature commentary from the director, VFX Supervisor Edward J. Douglas (VFX Supervisor), Sound Designer Eugenio Battaglia (Sound Designer), and Edo Van Breemen (Composer). Six collectible postcards are also available within the package.
The standard HD Blu-ray disc comes with 1080p resolution in a 1.85:1 aspect ratio and Dolby Atmos audio. The 4K UHD disc comes with 2160p resolution and Dolby Vision HDR. Both of these have a runtime of 111 minutes and include English SDH and Spanish subtitles, with English descriptive audio.
The pre-bookings of Parson’s Backrooms in 4K UHD and Blu-ray come almost 2 months after its global theatrical release. During its theatrical run, the movie gained massive success, earning $367.9 million globally on an estimated $10 million production budget.
The A24 movie was the 21-year-old’s directorial debut. The young, self-taught filmmaker first shot Backrooms as a 9-minute found footage film, which was released in 2022 on YouTube Shorts as a series. He also released other series on the platform, like People Still Live Here and The Oldest View.
The story was co-written by him and Will Soodik. It features Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve in a psychological sci-fi horror film where a strange doorway appears in the basement of a furniture showroom.
