Forgotten Marvel Star Joins New Horror Thriller From Mortal Kombat 2 Writer

Kevin Bacon, who once featured in 20th Century Fox’s X-Men franchise as the villainous Sebastian Shaw, has joined the cast of Jeremy Slater’s forthcoming horror thriller movie. Titled Summoner, the film will also mark the directorial debut of Slater, who has so far entertained audiences by penning fan-favorite projects like Mortal Kombat 2 and The Umbrella Academy.

Kevin Bacon boards Jeremy Slater’s upcoming horror thriller

According to a recent report, the Footloose star is all set to lead the first directorial feature of the Mortal Kombat 2 writer. Titled Summoner, the Amazon MGM project falls under the horror thriller genre and has yet to confirm more cast members besides the Footloose star.

As per The Hollywood Reporter, the movie, also written by Jeremy Slater, revolves around an exorcist named Jefferson Haddock, essayed by Kevin Bacon. He arrives at an isolated witness protection property upon request. On a mission to eliminate a dreadful demonic entity, Haddock inadvertently frees an inhumane force that ends up endangering him, as well as everything around him.

Meanwhile, horror veteran Andy Muschietti, his wife and production partner Barbara Muschietti, and Russell Ackerman have signed on to produce the feature under their Nocturna banner. Furthermore, Dan Kagan, who has served as a producer on multiple horror hits, including Longlegs, Hokum, and They Will Kill You, among others, will be executive producing the film.

Notably, the 67-year-old Kevin Bacon is no stranger to the horror genre, having featured in a slew of such projects throughout his career. In addition to iconic movies like Friday the 13th, Tremors, and Hollow Man, the Golden Globe Award winner has several other horror titles under his belt, including Stir of Echoes, You Should Have Left, and They/Them.

While the official release date schedule of Summoner remains unclear at the time of writing, THR has revealed that filming for Jeremy Slater’s first directorial venture will commence sometime in this year’s fall.
