An acclaimed Emmy-winning actress has joined the Lanterns cast. She’ll be seen alongside Aaron Pierre, Kyle Chandler, and more in the DC HBO show.
Which Emmy winner is joining the Lanterns cast?
Laura Linney has joined the Lanterns cast for DC’s upcoming TV show from HBO, reports Variety. Linney’s casting was initially reported in 2025, though it was not officially confirmed until now. Full details on her character in the show are still under wraps. Linney can be briefly seen in the upcoming show’s latest teaser.
Linney was recently seen in the MGM+ series American Classic opposite Kevin Kline. In 2025, she also appeared in the documentary series The American Revolution. Moreover, she starred in 2024’s coming-of-age drama Suncoast and 2023’s comedy-drama The Miracle Club.

The Lanterns cast also features the likes of Kelly Macdonald, Garret Dillahunt, Poorna Jagannathan, Jason Ritter, and Ulrich Thomsen. It has already been reported that Nathan Fillion will reprise his role as fellow Green Lantern Guy Gardner.
According to the official logline, the show follows “new recruit John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) and Lantern legend Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler), two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.”
Lanterns is produced by HBO in collaboration with Warner Bros. Television and DC Studios. In 2024, HBO picked up the series for eight episodes. Previously set for a release on HBO Max, the show later shifted to HBO as part of the new content delineation plan.
Writers on the show include Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King. They also serve as executive producers alongside James Hawes. The latter will also direct the first two episodes. James Gunn, Peter Safran, and Ron Schmidt are also executive producers.
Lanterns is set to make its debut on August 16, 2026, on HBO.
