The cast of Invincible Season 4 is continuing to expand, as Amazon Prime Video’s superhero show has added a Marvel star as a new villain. The official social media accounts for the series have confirmed that Danai Gurira will play the villain, Universa. The new season releases in two months, although an exact release date hasn’t been revealed as of writing.
Danai Gurira to voice Universa in Invincible Season 4
Danai Gurira will voice the villain Universa in Invincible Season 4. For those unfamiliar with the actress, she is best known for playing Okoye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Black Panther and Avengers films and Michonne in The Walking Dead franchise.
With her casting, Gurira is the latest Marvel star to enter Invincible’s world of intense battles and gripping storytelling. She is preceded by the likes of J.K. Simmons (J. Jonah Jameson in Spider-Man films and related media), who voices Omni-Man; Simu Liu (Shang-Chi), voicing Multi-Paul; and Sterling K. Brown (N’Jobu in Black Panther), lending his voice to Angstrom Levy, among others.
In the comics, Universa is an alien who arrives on Earth and targets a power plant, hoping to drain the planet’s energy to save her own, even though it would be fatal to Earth. However, Invincible and Atom Eve stop and imprison her.
Invincible and Cecil Stedman later reach a compromise with Universa, helping her with her mission to save her planet by allowing her to collect a small portion of energy from power plants across the United States. While the energy she collects isn’t enough to save her planet, it is enough to buy them time to come up with a better solution. Universa later leaves Earth after getting enough energy to do so, parting with Invincible on amicable terms.
The casting news comes at the same time Invincible HQ shared new images from Season 4. The images offer glimpses at new storylines and characters, most notably Thragg, voiced by Foundation star Lee Pace.
Invincible Season 4 premieres in March 2026. Robert Kirkman created the animated show, based on his Image Comics series of the same name.
Steven Yeun, Sandra Oh, and J.K. Simmons make up the main voice cast. Meanwhile, the supporting cast includes Gillian Jacobs, Andrew Rannells, Zazie Beetz, Walton Goggins, and Ross Marquand, among others.
