A new Prime Video TV show that has just received a series order will make Rick and Morty fans happy.
Mike McMahan previously served as a writer and producer on the popular adult animated show Rick and Morty. Notably, McMahan won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Animated Program for his work as a supervising producer on the iconic “Pickle Rick” episode, which was part of Rick and Morty Season 3.
After leaving Rick and Morty, McMahan went on to co-create Hulu’s Solar Opposites show in 2018 before he then created the Star Trek: Lower Decks series for CBS All Access, which was later rebranded to Paramount+.
What is the new Prime Video TV show?
Per Deadline, Prime Video has now given McMahan’s new show, which is titled Odd Jobs, a series order. McMahan co-created Odd Jobs alongside Dominic Dierkes, and both of them serve as executive producers.
“In Odd Jobs, the year is 2127, the world is an extreme late-stage capitalist hellscape. The show follows a reluctant team of gig workers as they travel around the neo Midwest, doing the weirdest most dangerous tasks the ODD JOBS app demands,” Deadline’s article reads.
McMahan and Dierkes said in a statement, “While wandering through the wilderness, we accidentally stumbled through a portal and found ourselves hundreds of years in the future. We witnessed bizarre and grotesque portents about where humanity is heading. Instead of acting on those warnings, we’re thrilled to turn them into an animated show.”
Amazon MGM Studios’ Melissa Wolfe added, “Odd Jobs is sharp, absurd, and laugh-out-loud funny, taking a wildly imaginative look at a future that’s as chaotic as it is entertaining. Mike and Dominic have built a bold, unpredictable world filled with hilarious characters, and we couldn’t be more excited to partner with CBS Studios and Titmouse to bring this new comedy to Prime Video audiences around the world.”
Titmouse is the animation studio working on Odd Jobs, while Chris Prynoski, Shannon Prynoski, Antonio Canobbio, Ben Kalina, and Amie Karp also serve as executive producers. A premiere date has not yet been set.
