It: Welcome to Derry Gets teaser reveals it arrives in October
HBO released a new teaser trailer for It: Welcome to Derry, confirming an October release window for the upcoming prequel series.
Developed by Andy Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti, and Jason Fuchs, the nine-episode series will debut on HBO and stream on HBO Max. The show expands the universe of Stephen King’s 1986 novel IT. It also builds on the feature films directed by Muschietti, which collectively grossed $1.17 billion worldwide.
The teaser premiered during a late-night panel at San Diego Comic-Con. It introduces Taylour Paige’s character, a woman who moves to Derry with her husband. Soon after, children begin to vanish.
Bill Skarsgård’s Pennywise makes a brief appearance at the end of the trailer. Skarsgård reprises his role from IT and IT Chapter Two. He had earlier expressed hesitation about returning after his performance as Orlok in Nosferatu.
Set in 1962, Season 1 will explore events leading up to Pennywise’s emergence, incorporating material based on Mike Hanlon’s research in the novel. “It’s a story that’s based on the interludes of the book,” Andy Muschietti said via Radio TU. “They talk about catastrophic events from the past, like the fire in the Black Spot, the massacre of the Bradley Gang… and the explosion of the Kitchener Ironworks.”
Andy Muschietti directs multiple episodes and co-executive produces with Barbara Muschietti and Jason Fuchs, who also co-showruns with Brad Caleb Kane. Additional executive producers include Bill Skarsgård, Shelley Meals, David Coatsworth, and Lee and Dan Lin. The cast features Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, James Remar, Stephen Rider, Madeleine Stowe, and Rudy Mancuso.
If greenlit, the series is planned to run for three seasons, with future installments set in 1935 and 1908.
