Melissa McCarthy is about to take her most dramatic turn yet in a new Netflix show. The upcoming limited series will focus on one of America’s most chilling murder cases and was previously being developed as a Paramount+ show.
What is Melissa McCarthy’s new Netflix TV show?
Melissa McCarthy will star in the upcoming Netflix series The Murder of JonBenét Ramsey. As the title suggests, the series will center on “one of the most infamous unsolved murder cases in American history, and the devastating personal and public reckoning that followed the death of JonBenét Ramsey on Christmas night in 1996.”
The case has remained unsolved to this day, despite having several suspects. This won’t be the first time JonBenét‘s story has been portrayed in a scripted format. Previously, the case was the subject of the 2000 miniseries Perfect Murder, Perfect Town. Dyanne Iandoli portrayed JonBenét Ramsey in the show. Following that, other movies like Getting Away with Murder: The JonBenet Ramsey Story and 2016’s Who Killed JonBenét also covered the unsolved case. Netflix previously released a documentary covering the subject in Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenét Ramsey.
However, McCarthy isn’t playing the titular character. Instead, she will be playing Patsy Ramsey, JonBenét’s mother. The Murder of JonBenét Ramsey will star Emily Mitchell as JonBenét Ramsey, along with Clive Owen, Garrett Hedlund, Alison Pill, Shea Whigham, Owen Teague, Clifton Collins Jr., Angus Caldwell, and Jaime Ray Newman. Series regulars include Rory Cochrane, Chris Bauer, Will Patton, Jeremy Bobb, John Billingsley, and Josh Stamberg.
Richard LaGravenese (A Family Affair) serves as the show’s writer, showrunner, and executive producer. Anne Sewitsky will direct the series’ episodes. Harrison Query and Tommy Wallach will be its co-writers, along with executive producing it. McCarthy, Sewitsky, David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, and David Hutkin will serve as executive producers. Margo Martindale and Tzi Ma will guest star in the series.
The Murder of JonBenét Ramsey will stream on Netflix sometime in winter 2026.
