Per Deadline, Streep, Hathaway, Blunt, and Tucci will all reprise their respective roles in the sequel. The movie has also added Kenneth Branagh to the cast. He will be playing Streep’s character’s husband.
Branagh has directed and starred in a number of William Shakespeare adaptations, including 1989’s Henry V, 1993’s Much Ado About Nothing, 1996’s Hamlet, and more. In recent years, he’s largely recognized for playing Hercule Poirot in 2017’s Murder on the Orient Express, 2022’s Death on the Nile, and 2023’s A Haunting in Venice, all of which he also directed.
“Plot details for the sequel haven’t been confirmed, but the storyline reportedly follows Miranda Priestly as she navigates her career amid the decline of traditional magazine publishing,” the article notes. “She faces off against Blunt’s character, her one-time assistant who is now a high-powered executive for a luxury group with advertising dollars that Priestly desperately needs. It’s not clear how Hathaway’s Andy Sachs will factor into the story; at the end of the first film, she quits Runway and takes a job at a newspaper.”
Frankel is returning to direct, while Aline Brosh McKenna, who wrote the original movie, is also returning.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 has been given a May 1, 2026, release date from 20th Century Studios.
