These protests took place on June 14, 2025, which coincided with the Grand Military parade to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army and also Donald Trump’s 79th birthday. The protests stemmed from opposition to Trump’s actions during his second presidency.

Ruffalo and Sarandon shared a picture of themselves from the “No Kings” protest on Instagram, via a collaboration post with Artists4Ceasefire. They urged people to fight for peace, safety, health, dignity, and freedom.
MSNBC also interviewed Ruffalo and asked him why he felt the protests mattered. The Marvel actor explained his involvement in the protests by saying, “We see our democracy is in real trouble. We see a president who has made himself a king and dictator.” Ruffalo continued, “And we don’t see an opposition that’s powerful enough to stand up against the trampling of our rights, and the trampling of our constitution that’s happening every single day with executive orders, with the refusal to obey court orders, kidnapping of immigrants, people who are here legally, people who their children are being taken from them.”
Ruffalo continued, “We’re disgusted and we’re scared, and we know that the only way to fight this now is for the people to come together.”
Jimmy Kimmel flew to South Bay, Los Angeles, to participate in the protests. He shared a post on Instagram, expressing gratitude towards fellow Americans for taking action to “stand up” for their “friends and neighbors” and his parents.
Many other celebrities, as well as Mark Ruffalo and Jimmy Kimmel, posted online about their involvement in the protests. Julia Louis-Dreyfus shared a picture on Instagram of herself holding a sign that read “The only monarch I like is a butterfly.” “#Nokings USUSUS,” the Veep actress captioned the post.
