Is Michael Che leaving SNL after Season 50?
As of now, it’s yet to be seen whether Michael Che will be leaving SNL after Season 50.
Che joined the show as a co-anchor of Weekend Update in 2014, in Season 40. During his stand-up act at the University of Rochester in February 2025, the 41-year-old ended up announcing his exit from SNL. He stated, “This is my last season. I’m not coming back, don’t worry. I’m done, it’s over for me. It’s been so much fun. It’s a little emotional, it’s bittersweet.” (via Campus Times)
This led to fans speculating about Che’s exit from the show. However, this is not the first time Michael Che has teased his departure from Saturday Night Live. According to Variety in 2022, the comedian said it would be his “last year” on the show at a comedy set in Minneapolis. However, he then elaborated on the comments in his Instagram story, stating, “To comedy fans; please stop telling reporters everything you hear at a comedy show. You’re spoiling the trick.”
Further, Che again discussed his plans to leave the show in an interview with The New York Times. He stated that his “head has been at leaving for the past five seasons. I do think that I’ve been here longer than I’ll be here. This show is built for younger voices, and at some point, there’ll be something more exciting to watch at the halfway mark of the show than me and dumb [Colin] Jost.”
While Michael Che has again teased his exit, it will be interesting to see if it’s again a joke or a serious announcement. Currently, fans need to wait for a final confirmation from the comedian and the makers of SNL.
