ComingSoon is debuting an exclusive Dovey’s Promise trailer for Breaking Glass Pictures’ upcoming historical drama about civil rights activist and lawyer Dovey Johnson Roundtree. The film is expected to be released sometime this year.
“Mary Pinchot Meyer, the secret lover of JFK, was brutally murdered in a Georgetown park 11 months after he was, and right away, a poor hapless black man, Raymond Crump, was arrested and charged with the crime,” reads the synopsis. “But, famed Civil Rights attorney Dovey Roundtree believed so strongly in Crump’s innocence that she defended him for one dollar. So began the trial of the century which pitted Dovey Roundtree against the U.S. Department of Justice, immortalized in this gripping courtroom drama.”

What happens in the Dovey’s Promise trailer?
The video highlights Dovey Roundtree’s fight for justice, as she helps a young man prove his innocence in court, after he was accused of murdering a controversial figure who was close to the late U.S. president John F. Kennedy. It teases the challenges she must face, as she goes up against the U.S. Department of Justice.
Dovey’s Promise is written and directed by Ralph Cinque, with Michelle C. Lipsomb serving as its producer. The film stars Joy White as Dovey Roundtree, Karl Lucht as Terence Reilly, Lance Henry as Prosecutor Alfred Hantman, Eric Wilkerson as Judge Howard Corcoran, Terrence Mombrun as Raymond Crump, Alvis Lewis as William Roundtree, and more. It is a production by Lost Maples Productions. Last year, the film was screened at several film festivals where it garnered multiple awards, including Best Original Score at the Cine Paris Festival, Silver Award Winner at the Paris Film Awards, and Best Feature Film at the Cinestars Chicago.
