Michael: Larenz Tate, Kat Graham, & More Cast in Michael Jackson Biopic

Larenz Tate, Kat Graham, Jessica Sula, and more have been cast in Lionsgate and Universal Pictures International’s upcoming Michael Jackson biopic, Michael.

Announced in a press release from Lionsgate, Tate will play Motown Records founder Berry Gordy in Michael, which is being directed by Antoine Fuqua, while Graham will play singer Diana Ross.

Sula, meanwhile, has been cast as Michael’s older sister La Toya, while Liv Symone will play Gladys Knight, Kendrick Sampson will play Quincy Jones, KeiLyn Durrel Jones will play Bill Bray, and Kevin Shinick will play Dick Clark.

“I’m thrilled that we were able to bring together such a gifted group of actors for this film,” said producer Graham King. “What they bring to these key roles provides a rich backdrop for the movie, adding to the extraordinary ensemble.”

Who else stars in the Michael Jackson biopic?

Jaafar Jackson, the nephew of Michael Jackson, is playing the King of Pop in the forthcoming movie. The cast also includes Colman Domingo, Nia Long, Miles Teller, Laura Harrier, and Juliano Krue Valdi.

“Michael will bring audiences a riveting and honest portrayal of the brilliant yet complicated man who became known worldwide as the King of Pop,” the synopsis for the film reads. “This epic, cinematic film will examine Jackson’s triumphs and tragedies — from his human side, to his public and private struggles, to the accusations and the 24/7 media microscope Jackson lived under, even at his artistic apex.  The all-star filmmaking team will also capture Michael’s undeniable creative genius, recreating his most memorable, iconic performances.  As never before, audiences will experience an inside look at one of the most influential, trailblazing artists the world has ever known.”

Written by John Logan, the movie is produced by King, John Branca, and John McClain.

Michael releases in theaters everywhere on April 18, 2025, from Lionsgate and Universal Pictures International.
