Brightburn 2 Update Given by James Gunn After Last Year’s Announcement

Filmmaker James Gunn has given fans a Brightburn 2 update after being asked about when the anticipated sequel is coming.

On the social media platform Threads, Gunn — who produced the original 2019 superhero horror movie — was asked when the announced Brightburn sequel was happening, with the latest update having arrived last year.

Gunn gave a disappointing response, stating that there are “no plans at all” for the sequel to get made right now. He was then asked if he would let another director take on Brightburn 2, to which he confirmed that he didn’t write or direct the first movie, as he only produced it.

You can see the replies in the images below:

BrightBurn was directed by David Yarovesky (The Hive) and written by Mark Gunn and Brian Gunn. Elizabeth Banks (The Hunger Games, Pitch Perfect) starred in the film alongside David Denman (13 Hours, Power Rangers), Jackson A. Dunn (Shameless), Matt Jones (Mom, Home) and Meredith Hagner (Younger, Set it Up).

What is Brightburn about?

“After a difficult struggle with fertility, Tori Breyer’s dreams of motherhood come true with the arrival of a mysterious baby boy,” reads the film’s synopsis. “Brandon appears to be everything Tori and her husband, Kyle, ever wanted — bright, talented and curious about the world. But as Brandon nears puberty, powerful darkness manifests within him, and Tori becomes consumed by terrible doubts about her son. Once Brandon begins to act on his twisted urges, those closest to him find themselves in grave danger.”
