Mindy Kaling’s Basketball Comedy Series Adds New Girl Alum & More

According to Deadline, New Girl vet Max Greenfield has officially been tapped to join Kate Hudson in Netflix’s untitled basketball comedy series hailing from Mindy Kaling.

Greenfield is set portray Lev Levy, the love interest of Hudson’s character Isla Gordon. He’s described as a good-natured pediatrician and an encouraging fiancé. In addition to Greenfield, Uche Agada (Rise) and Dane DiLiegro (Prey) have also been cast for the respective roles of eager rookie Dyson Gibbs and Eastern European player Badrag Knauss.

“When a scandal forces her brother to resign, Isla Gordon is appointed President of the Los Angeles Waves, one of the most storied professional basketball franchises, and her family business,” reads the logline. “Ambitious and often overlooked, Isla will have to prove to her skeptical brothers, the board, and the larger sports community that she was the right choice for the job, especially in the unpredictable, male-dominated world of sports.”

The untitled series is written and executive produced by Kaling (Never Have I Ever), Ike Barinholtz, and David Stassen, with the latter also serving as the showrunner. The series also stars Brenda Song as Ali Lee, Drew Tarver as Sandy Gordon, Scott MacArthur as Ness Gordon, Fabrizio Guido as Jackie Moreno, Toby Sandeman as Marcus Winfield, Chet Hanks as Travis Bugg, Keyla Monterroso Mejia as Ana Moreno, and Roberto Sanchez as Stephen Ramirez. It is executive produced by Hudson, Howard Klein, Jeanie Buss, and Linda Rambis, with Jordan Rambis producing.
