Universal Monsters: Frankenstein Comic Details

The synopsis of the first issue reads, “In this first issue, Dr. Henry Frankenstein begins his unholy quest to create life by robbing the grave of a decorated police officer to find necessary parts, specifically a strong pair of hands. But little does he know that the corpse has a son who is mourning a father – and that this young boy will forever change Frankenstein’s life.”

Michael Walsh is best known for comics such as Comeback, The Silver Coin, and viral webcomic The Sleep Stories. He’s also provided art for comics of X-Men, Spider-Man, the X-Files, and Star Wars, plus art for Magic: The Gathering cards.

“The story of Dr. Frankenstein and his poor, misunderstood monster is one of the most recognizable and influential horror tales ever told… It’s also one of my favorites,” said Walsh of working on this comic. ”The original 1931 film from Universal Pictures is a continuing inspiration for my art and storytelling, so, as you can imagine, I was honored to be able to play in that sandbox. Trying to tell an original story while staying true to the canon of that film was an exciting yet daunting prospect. It’s been some of the most fun I’ve had making comic books, and I know that fans of Frankenstein and horror will have a blast experiencing these characters and iconic scenes like never before.”

The Universal Monsters: Frankenstein series follows comic book adaptations of Dracula and The Creature From the Black Lagoon, the latter of which is available next month.

Frankenstein is having quite the revival right now, with Zelda Williams’ Lisa Frankenstein recently released and projects based on the book by Guillermo Del Toro and Maggie Gyllenhaal on the horizon.

Issue #1 of the Universal Monsters: Frankenstein comic will be released on August 28, 2024.
