Virgin River Prequel in Development at Netflix, Season 6 Begins Production

Virgin River is looking to expand its universe. Deadline reports that a Virgin River prequel is in development at Netflix. Additionally, production on Virgin River Season 6 has begun in Vancouver.

The Virgin River prequel would be an origin story centered around Mel’s late mother, Sarah, and her love story with Everett Reid, who would become Mel’s biological father. Virgin River showrunner Patrick Sean Smith is writing the prequel.

Casting for actors to play a young Sarah and Everett is underway. The plan is to have the actors cast in the prequel first appear as guest stars in Season 6 through flashbacks.

In the Virgin River Christmas special, Everett, played by John Allen Nelson, was introduced in the present day. Sarah has yet to be featured on the show in a significant way.
