Tom Holland’s Announcement Is a Romeo & Juliet West End Revival

After teasing a big announcement, Tom Holland revealed he will star in a new stage adaptation of Romeo & Juliet this summer in London’s West End. Holland will star as Romeo in the revival from Jamie Lloyd.

The Spider-Man star announced the project on his Instagram. The post features a photo of a blood-red Holland with a graphic to sign up at RomeoAndJulietldn.com. The caption reads, “Violent Delights Have Violent Ends,” a line said by Friar Lawrence in Romeo & Juliet. Tickets go on sale starting February 13.

What to Expect in Romeo & Juliet?

Romeo & Juliet will run at the Duke of York’s Theatre for 12 weeks only from May 11-August 3. Additional casting, including the role of Juliet, was not announced. “Tom Holland is one of the greatest, most exciting young actors in the world,” Lloyd said in a statement. “It is an honour to welcome him back to the West End.”

The official synopsis reads: “Tom Holland is Romeo in Jamie Lloyd’s pulsating new vision of Shakespeare’s immortal tale of wordsmiths, rhymers, lovers and fighters. Romeo & Juliet storms London’s West End for a strictly limited run from May 2024.”

Since starring in Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021, Holland has appeared in two projects: Uncharted, a 2022 feature film adaptation of the popular video game, and The Crowded Room, the 2023 psychological thriller series from Apple TV+. Holland returns to the stage for the first time since debuting in 2008’s Billy Elliot: The Musical.

Lloyd recently helmed 2023’s A Doll’s House. The Broadway production starred Chastain, Arian Moayed, Michael Patrick Thornton, and Okieriete Onaodowan. A Doll’s House received six Tony nominations, including Best Revival of a Play, Lead Actress in a Play (Chastain), and Best Direction of a Play (Lloyd).
