IF Movie 2024: Ryan Reynolds, Randall Park & John Krasinski Joke Video Explained

To promote the new 2024 movie IF, John Krasinski and Ryan Reynolds have teamed up with Randall Park. But why is Randall Park involved with the marketing if he isn’t playing any characters in the film? Here’s all you need to know about the joke involving him and Krasinski.

Has Randall Park directed Ryan Reynolds and John Krasinski’s ‘IF’ Movie (2024)?

No, Ryan Reynolds’ IF (2024) has not been directed by Randall Park as John Krasinski is the director.

Reynolds’ social media pages recently launched a new featurette where Randall Park pretends to be the director of IF (2024), John Krasinski. But many who aren’t aware of the context behind this have been left as confused as Reynolds is in the featurette.

Contrary to the belief of many fans of “The Office”, Randall Park is not John Krasinski and he hasn’t directed IF. He is just involved in the film’s fun marketing campaign to continue a long-running joke.

Why is Randall Park pretending to be John Krasinski? Joke Explained

Randall Park is pretending to be John Krasinski in IF’s marketing campaign to continue a gag from one of The Office’s episodes that aired in 2012.

The Office Season 9 Episode 3 titled “Andy’s Ancestry”, saw Randall Park making a cameo pretending to be John Krasinski’s character, Jim Halpert. It was a prank set up by Jim and Pam to mess with Rain Wilson’s Dwight Schrute, making him believe that Jim was always Asian and had Randall Park’s face.

While it was just one small scene, The Office’s streaming success turned the cameo into a widely popular meme. Similar to John Cena’s long-running joke of him being invisible, fans have carried the joke of Randall Park and John Krasinski being the same person for over a decade.

Hence, John Krasinski and Ryan Reynolds are using it as a fun marketing tool to promote their new movie, IF.

The official synopsis of ‘IF’ reads:

“From writer and director John Krasinski, IF is about a girl who discovers that she can see everyone’s imaginary friends — and what she does with that superpower — as she embarks on a magical adventure to reconnect forgotten IFs with their kids. IF stars Ryan Reynolds, John Krasinski, Cailey Fleming, Fiona Shaw, and the voices of Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Louis Gossett Jr., and Steve Carell alongside many more as the wonderfully unique characters that reflect the incredible power of a child’s imagination.”
