WWE Teases The Rock vs. Roman Reigns Showdown in 2024

The Rock‘s recent return to WWE on RAW: DAY 1 has reignited speculations about a potential clash with WWE Champion Roman Reigns once again. The rumored showdown between the two stars was initially slated for the previous year’s WrestleMania, which was canceled. During the latest edition of RAW, The Rock made an unanticipated appearance, interrupting Jinder Mahal’s promo and leaving fans excited. He laid out Mahal with his signature moves – Spinebuster and People’s Elbow.

Furthermore, The People’s Champion didn’t shy away from teasing a possible match with the current WWE Champion, Roman Reigns. The potential match tease has generated a lot of buzz among the fans.

On Wrestling Observer Radio, wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer revealed that The Rock’s recent references were originally introduced to set up a monumental showdown with Reigns. The catchphrases ‘The Head of the Table’ and ‘Tribal Chief’ given to Reigns in 2020 were planned to make fans excited about the upcoming battle with The Rock.

“That whole thing, ‘The Head of the Table’ and all that, and ‘Tribal Chief,’ was all done originally to build up the Roman Reigns-Rock match.”

Additionally, Meltzer mentioned that WWE initially intended to have The Rock face Reigns at WrestleMania 38 in April 2022. But the match reportedly didn’t happen. WWE then targeted WrestleMania 39 in Los Angeles, but once again, the match didn’t materialize.

The Rock vs Roman Reigns set for 2024, WrestleMania excluded

The Rock challenging Roman Reigns for a match, the much-anticipated dream bout seems imminent, contrary to initial WrestleMania rumors.

The new development indicates that the dream match might take place in Australia next month during WWE’s Elimination Chamber at the Optus Stadium in Perth. The venue boasts a capacity comparable to WrestleMania, accommodating around 70,000 fans.

It also suggests that The Great One won’t be competing for the WWE title. Instead, he will be aiming for the prestigious position of the Head of the Table.

This is the first time WWE is hosting a premium live event in Australia since 2018. In 2018, WWE hosted a Super Show-Down, which was headlined by The Undertaker and Triple H.
