The duo will find the perfect matches for unmarried men and women who are considered older than the average marriageable age.

Rowoon will play the role of widowed Shim Jung-Woo, while Cho Yi-Hyun will essay the role of widow Jung Soon-Deok. While the lead couple will work as matchmakers, they will also deal with their respective chaotic lives, navigating multiple challenges in the process. Hwang Seung-Gi and Kim Soo-Jin serve as the directors of the K-drama.

The Matchmakers release date, cast, & more

The Matchmakers is all set to release on Monday, October 30, 2023, at 9:45 p.m. KST on KBS. The K-drama will also be available to stream on Viki. Rowoon embarks on the project fresh from the success of his previous romance-thriller drama Destined With You. Meanwhile, Cho Yi-Hyun has been known for her role in the zombie thriller All of Us Are Dead.

The Matchmakers tells the story of two individuals, Shim Jung-Woo (Rowoon) and Jung Soon-Deok (Cho Yi-Hyun). The former is described as a grumpy but one of the smartest men in the land. He became the youngest person ever to pass the civil service examination. He is the king’s son-in-law, whose bride died moments after they got married.

Soon-Deok is married into a powerful family but has become a widow. She leads a double life as a matchmaker, pairing single men with suitable brides. She comes in contact with Jung-Woo, and the duo work together to marry single men and women in the Joseon dynasty. While they are completely opposite personality-wise, fate has led them to work as a team.

The Matchmakers will also tell the story of how the duo, who become cupids for others, will find their way to love each other. The cast list includes Rowoon, Cho Yi-Hyun, Park Ji-Young, Jo Han-Chul, Lee Hae-Young, Jin Hee-Kyung, Jung Shin-Hye, Park Ji-Won, Jung Mo-Bin, Oh Yeju, and Park Hwan-Hee.

Catch the premiere of The Matchmakers on October 30, 2023, at 9:45 p.m. KST, 8:45 a.m. ET, and 12:45 p.m. GST on KBS and Viki.
